Martin Luther King, Jr: Dr Martin Luther King, Jr fought for Civil Rights. His "I Have a Dream" speech that he made at the Lincoln Memorial in 1962 when he was 34 is still listened to and read today. King was recognized for his work with the honorable award of the Nobel Peace Prize at age 35. Dr. King's life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated at age 39. Luckily the hope and inspiration that he was providing then for all people continues today. Across the nation we honor Dr. King every January near his January 15th birthday. School assembly speakers educate students on the historical impact of the civil rights events. Speakers often build upon King's message that we don't rid hate with hate, but with love which is still needed today. More Info: 1) Seattle Times Resource 2) Education World
