SHAMROCKS:Shamrocks are the symbol of Ireland. They are usually 3-leafed clover. The number three is Ireland's magic number. All good things come in threes (ie. Faith, Hope, Charity; present, past, future; etc). Four leaf ones are rare and therefore said to bring the finder good luck. The shamrock was originally used for its medical properties.

Baby Chick: The baby chick just hatched out of its egg is a common image when we think of spring, the farm, and baby animals. Spring is the start of new life all around us as crocuses, tulips and daffodils pop through from winter's ground, and deciduous trees blossom and give hints of green. Our dreary winter world magically is uplifted to a world of color with this new life and new growth. Baby chicks are often used from the beginning of spring through Easter to represent new life.

#1 Mom: Mother's always appreciate artwork done by their child, but something specifically done for her doesn't happen as much as the child continues through the years at school due to pressure on teachers to concentrate on state learning objectives/goals. NOW you can incorporate both with #1 Mom CoordinArt! Students practice their plotting skills while creating a picture that can function as a special card for their mom. Encourage students to write a personal note on the back or further enhance the front design with meaningful words/phrases specific to family memories or traditions.

Memorial Day-Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is located at Arlington National Cemetery. The Tomb contains the remains of unknown American soldiers from World Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict and (until 1998) the Vietnam War. The inscription says "Here Rests In Honored Glory An American Soldier Known But To God". The tomb is guarded 24 hours a days 365 days a year. It is a special honor to be selected for this sentinel duty. Only 550 soldiers have served in this capacity over the last 45 years. The guards do all movements based on the number 21, which represents the 21 gun salute one of the highest honor a military or foreign dignitary receives. Sailboat: A great sign that summer fun has arrived is seeing sailboats out on the water. The sailboat has a mainsail, and a headsail or jib. A spinnaker is an optional sail, often strikingly colorful and fun, that is raised to sail fast down wind. These can be seen during sailboat races when they make the turn to sail downwind. Proper hoisting and lowering are both crucial, especially during a race.

Baseball: The game of baseball has been known as "America's favorite past time" whether they are referring to a put together game with the kids of a neighborhood, a family/ group picnic activity or watching an organized game at the high school, college, minor or major league professional level. Youngsters are introduced to baseball early with T-ball and followed up with Little League. Watching a professional game comes with images and smells of hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts and Cracker Jack...and the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch. Baseball is a welcome sign of summer to many areas of the United States. The National Baseball Hall of Fame is located in Cooperstown, NY.

Learn more about your students by suggesting they color the bat in this CoordinArt design to match the color(s) of their favorite team. (Mine is for the Mariners.) They may want to add in the background..."Go ________!" or the name of their favorite player.

While it was Willima Ebb Ellis, a student at the Rugby School in England, who picked up the ball during the soccer game and ran with it in 1823, Walter Camp is considered the most important figure in the development of American football. Camp was a football player at Yale, and later was the general athletic director and head advisory football coach at Yale from 1888-1914. Walter Camp is nick-named the Father of American football. He edited every American football rulebook unitl his death in 1925. For specific contributions Camp made click here. The NFL (National Football League) was formed in 1920. Jack O'Lantern: Children through America enjoy picking out a pumpkin that they take home and with the help of an adult carve into a Jack O'Lantern. They proudly display the Jack O'Lantern lit with a candle for Halloween night. Many people have gotten quite creative and competitive with the intricate designs they have done on a pumpkin. The origin of the Jack O'Lantern actually comes from an Irish legend. For this legend and the history of other related Halloween traditions
